ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR'S NOTES
On behalf of our dedicated staff and board of health, I would like to welcome you to our website. This site offers a comprehensive overview of health department programs and activities. The Jasper County Health Department has been providing health services to county residents since 1975. Starting with a staff of three in 1975, the health department now has a staff of 30 dedicated employees, who provide a wide array of preventive services for Jasper County residents. The Health Department is funded through a variety of sources, including state and federal grants, and a health department tax levy. The department also generates revenue through fees, permits, private insurance, Medicaid reimbursement, and a sliding fee scale for behavioral health clients. Our current operating budget is just under 1.3 million dollars, with which we provide services in three major areas: Public Health Nursing Services, Behavioral Health Services, and Environmental Health Services. Almost thirty different programs operate in these three areas, with the sole purpose of providing preventive health services to all Jasper County residents. The department also has many collaborative relationships with community and regional providers, along with key relationships with the business and economic development community. All of these relationships help facilitate services to county residents. As you will see on the website links, there are many new and emerging public health issues, which not only affect Jasper County, but also the nation as a whole. Issues such as Bioterrorism, West Nile Virus, SARS, Monkeypox, and Smallpox are all new and emerging, and must be monitored to protect the health of the public. We will continue to develop programs to benefit the entire community, and insure that the residents of Jasper County have a clean, safe and healthy environment, along with access to health care services.
